Before Your Birth

a) Discuss birth plans and preferences
b) Practice comfort measures and support techniques

personal library of books and DVD’s

Help developing birth and postpartum plans

Phone and email consultations to discuss pregnancy progress,
address questions or concerns and offer suggestions to make
pregnancy more comfortable
During Labour and Birth
- Continuous
labour support for you and your partner at your home or
hospital once labour has been established
- Preparation
of the birth space (at home or hospital) by providing
music, aromatherapy, candlelight and comfort items you
request and/or provide

- Suggestions
for, and assistance with positions for labour and
birth,
comfort measures and pain-coping techniques
- Provision
of birth ball, massage tools, hot packs and comfort
items
- Assistance
gathering information needed to make decisions about
medical procedures and interventions and/or about
progress of your labour
- Help
initiating breastfeeding and bonding
- Assistance
with comfort and personal needs immediately after the
birth (e.g. arranging snacks, help with moving to
recovery room)
After Your
Birth

visit after the birth (at a mutually convenient time) to
discuss your birth and admire your baby.

Breastfeeding
support (any time over the phone or at the p ostpartum
visit)

Referrals to
local breastfeeding support resources and/or postpartum
care, if needed

Suggestions for
postpartum comfort measures

Explanation of
newborn characteristics, newborn care and tips for

Fee for Birth Doula Services is $775.
Birth
Preparation Classes
Preparing for birth with prenatal classes can lead to a more
positive birth experience. Armed with information, couples
approach their birth with confidence. Join me at the
Old
Barn Community Centre at UBC as I share my experience as
a DONA-Certified Birth Doula, a Lamaze-trained facilitator,
an experienced teacher and a mother. Not only will you
learn more about birth, you will become prepared to adjust
to your new role as a parent and have the opportunity to
meet other expectant families.

Fee for Group Birth Preparation Classes is $175 per couple.
Private Birth
Preparation Classes
Customized
prenatal classes can be developed for you and your birth
partner. Classes can include discussion of all topics listed
above as well as any topics specific to your pregnancy or
birth. Private classes typically last between 6 and 8
hours, over two days. The sessions can include just you and
your birth partner or a small group of expectant couples you
assemble. Please
contact me to inquire about dates
and availability for these classes.
Fee for
Private Birth Preparation Classes is $225 per couple.

Postpartum Doula
Services
I provide
postpartum support that encourages attachment between you
and your new baby and strengthens your relationships with
your partner and other children. I offer support with
breastfeeding, teach you how to care for your newborn and
encourage you to nurture yourself as you adjust to
motherhood.
Fee for Postpartum Doula Services is $20 per hour with a
minimum 2.5 hour visit.
